About The Project

Paul Hodgkiss Designs are a Scottish company with international recognition for stylish, distinct handcrafted wood furniture and fittings that bring interiors to life.

Paul required a website that could be used to story the rich history of Paul Hodgkiss Designs; from his humble beginnings as an apprentice in 1982, to the award-winning artisan known for his ecological approach and best-in-class woodwork. More-over, Paul wanted the website to detail the range of domestic and commercial products and services he offers, and the ability to sell some of his unique items online to international customers.

Our Design Process

Considering Paul’s requirements and his desire to be able to update his website content on his own, we agreed that a WordPress website would be the best option. With WordPress, Paul could easily make changes to the text on his page, upload new images and choose which images he’d like to feature throughout the website. Additionally, a WordPress website would allow us to add eCommerce capabilities with the WooCommerce plugin.

With a short design brief we proceeded with building the framework of Paul’s WordPress website first; customising a premium theme with typography and colour schemes that were on-brand with Paul’s existing logo and brand guidelines. We built a large menu structure that split his services and business information into individual landing pages to make the website easier to navigate for people and search engines and presented Paul with an initial look for his approval. From there, we worked alongside Paul to populate the website with his written content, high quality project and product images, and finished up by creating his online store for selling his handcrafted art.

Project Completion & Launch

Once the website was completed and ready to go live we booked a meeting with Paul to go over the entire website for his approval. We also used this time to provide Paul with some training on how to use WordPress and discussed potential marketing opportunities, particularly for the online store.

Since the website has launched we have continued to work with Paul to keep the website content fresh and have helped over time with any adhoc marketing he requires, including Google Ads and email marketing to announce the opening of his new workshop.
