About The Project

The Sheila Maid® brand, established over forty years ago, has become one of the most iconic clothes airers in the world. Despite being imitated by cheaper brands across the globe, this original clothes airer is proudly produced by a team based in Forfar, Scotland, and is sold worldwide.

The client’s well-established Shopify website required modernisation to move away from a third-party theme that was limited to Shopify 1.0 features. We proposed purchasing a theme from the official Shopify store, and with the client’s agreement, we began customising the new theme.

Our Design Process

Given Sheila Maid’s large global audience, who had grown accustomed to their clean and straightforward design, we agreed that it was best to keep the design as close to the previous one as possible, while making subtle improvements. We started by customising the theme with the brand’s logos, fonts, and banners to create an initial homepage preview for the client to review.

Moving forward, we worked swiftly to complete the remaining parts of the website, including backend tasks such as updating the entire product database with new tags and modifying the website navigation to fit the new categorisation requested by the client. We also took this opportunity to onboard the client with Shopify Email, transitioning them away from the high costs associated with their MailChimp account to a free, integrated alternative within their website.

Project Completion & Launch

As the new theme launch date approached, we shared a final preview with the client to ensure they were satisfied with the design and layout. Once approved, we switched the website to the new theme purchased from the official Shopify store, ensuring they would receive the latest updates and improvements from Shopify indefinitely.

Since the launch, the volume of users and buyers visiting the website has remained high. While it is still early days, we are optimistic about seeing tangible improvements in user experience in the coming weeks and months.
